How are osteopaths regulated?
All osteopaths in the UK are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). It is against the law for anyone to call themselves an osteopath unless they are registered with the GOsC, which sets and promotes high standards of competency, conduct and safety.
Do I need a GP referral to see an osteopath?
Most patients ‘self refer’ to an osteopath for treatment. Although referral by a GP is not necessary, patients are encouraged to keep both their GP and osteopath fully informed, so that their medical records are current and complete and the patient receives the best possible care from both healthcare practitioners.
Is there parking?
Yes, both clinics have free parking available.
What should I wear?
As with any medical examination, you will probably be asked to undress to your underwear, so please wear something you are comfortable in.
Can I bring a friend or relative?
Yes, Children under the age of 16 should always be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. Anyone is more than welcome to bring someone with them though.
How do I pay for treatment?
We accept Debit cards, apple pay, cash or cheque. (excluding American Express)
How can I make a complaint?
We aim to ensure your experience at our clinic is helpful and professional. If you feel unhappy in any way regarding your visit, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can try and rectify the issue. If you prefer to speak with an alternative practitioner, then simply make this clear when you call or email. We aim to deal with all concerns as quickly and efficiently as possible. How many treatments will I need?
The complexity of each individual case will often be a guide for how many sessions are required. A recent study showed the average number of 3-4 visits to an Osteopath for a given problem, there are a lot of factors that may affect this though, your Osteopath will be able to give you a better indication after your initial consultation.
How will I feel afterwards?
It usually takes the body 2-3 days to process a treatment, though this can be shorter or longer. It’s not always possible to say exactly how you will feel but your Osteopath will be able to give you more information at the time of treatment.
What if I feel worse after the treatment?
If symptoms are worse after a treatment this is not necessarily a bad thing and can be a sign of the body being in a process of change. If you have concerns or if any reactions haven’t settled after 48 hours, please get in contact and speak to one of our team.
